As an alternative to litigation, mediation is typically less expensive and less time-consuming, leaves control in the hands of the disputing parties rather than a judge and jury, and leaves the parties free to fashion their own solutions.

Since 1988 our mediators have handled over 1000 personal injury disputes. Often the disputes involve two, three or even more defendants.

Our mediators play an active role in these mediations. We organize an effective process within which the parties can negotiate, and provide a neutral perspective on the merits of the cases to help the parties and their attorneys develop proposals and ultimately decide about a settlement.

In recent years the Center’s practice has shifted toward large dollar cases such as wrongful death cases or cases in which the plaintiffs are severely injured and permanently disabled.

Our mediators are also able and willing to handle smaller dollar cases. Typically, we schedule these cases for a half-day and they are completed within the time allotted. We decide in advance with the attorneys representing the parties how much time to allot to the mediation.
